My Bahama Sponge
My Bahama Sponge is a 100% owned Bahamian business. We were established in November 2011.
Training was under the watchful eyes of Mr. Ezra Green of Mangrove Cay Andros. He taught how to identify and determine the quality, the names and the differences of the sponges. My Bahama sponge is proud to represent the Bahamas in the sponging industry by carrying on a legacy that is worthy and needed.

History of Sponging in the Bahamas
The Bahamas has a long and rich history in the sponging industry. The first record of sponge export from the Bahamas was in 1843. At the height of the sponging industry in the Bahamas there were some 600 boats harvesting sponges.
My Bahama Sponge is committed to continuing this tradition by providing some of the best sponges in the world. We offer sponges for bathing, cleaning, washing pets and painting.
The Artist & Proprietor
My name is Andrew A Burrows of Nassau Bahamas. From January 1986- July 2011 I was gainfully employed at the Bahamas Telecommunications Company as a computer engineer in the IT Department.
The opportunity presented itself for My Bahama Sponge in 2011. I began working in the sponge industry operating two boats based in Mangrove Cay Andros. To this day My Bahama Sponge prides itself in being an eco friendly business.
All our sponges are skillfully cut from the shoal with a sharp tool to ensure that part of the sponge remains attached to the rock allowing the sponge to continue growing. The fishermen are then able to harvest from that same sponge in 18 to 24 months.
The sponges harvested are:
1) The Wool
2) The Grass
3) The Hardhead
